- Bowled over by seed mixture differences
So there I was, driving back from a maize field and I just happened to glance over the hedge into my Newlands field where we’ve got the trial with half the field to my usual cheap red clover/ryegrass mixture and the other to a Limagrain branded mixture. Wow! What a difference!! I couldn’t believe it! Using the highly technical measurement of The Welly, the Limagrain mixture is far taller and bulkier than my cheap seed mixture. Last year, I took the barley off in August, then took a further cut of just the grass/clover on the 20th September – but didn’t see any differences between the two mixtures. Note to self: maybe there is a difference between cheap and not so cheap seed mixtures. Let’s wait and see how they both perform as the year goes on.
